Dyson Airstrait: A new breed of flat iron
The Dyson Airstrait is a new breed of flat iron that could have saved us all a lot of trouble in the early 2000’s. With no hot plates and a conservative max temperature of 285 degrees Fahrenheit, this is a hair straightener that may actually put the brakes on our collective split ends.
The Airstrait retails for $499 and boasts the ability to take hair from wet to dry and silky straight with one tool. Using precise directional airflow it creates enough tension to straighten with minimal heat, which should equal less damage in the long run. It works beautifully and in my opinion there are really only two negatives to this tool, notwithstanding the price.
First it doesn’t create enough airflow to dry your roots quickly. The way to use if on wet hair is to close it and power dry your roots the way you would with a blow dryer. When I tried to do this it worked, but took a lot longer than it would have with a regular hair dryer. In my opinion your best bet is to give your roots a quick dry with a normal dryer, then proceed with the Airstrait.
Second, if you don’t have naturally curly hair or want to wear your hair straight it’s kind of overkill. This could be a life changing tool for curly girls who like to change their hair a lot. For someone like myself, who doesn’t have curly hair and doesn’t wear their hair straight very often, it may be a little excessive. I guess that depends a little bit on your budget and how much you are willing to invest in your hair care. For me, it feels excessive for my needs.
This is absolutely a game changer if you depend on a flat iron for a lot of your styling needs. It works exactly as it’s supposed to and I think it will minimize a lot of the damage most flat irons create. If you rarely pick up a flat iron you probably won’t find this that revolutionary. Have you tried the Airstrait? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
